‘Tis the season for eggnog, snowflakes, and stockings stuffed with headlamps and hand warmers. Inspired by the holidays, MEC employee Jen shares her gift-giving ideas for a family that spends lots of time together in the outdoors.

It’s the holiday season, and I’ve checked my list twice;
My family’s not perfect but they’re often quite nice.
So they’ll be receiving a few special things,
And enjoying the warmth that thoughtful gifts bring.
In my house I’m in charge of three boys in all…
One big guy, one medium, and one who’s still small.
What would they like to find under the tree?
Why, presents I’ve picked out that are from MEC!
Kids of all ages love getting new toys,
And I’ve chosen quite carefully so I don’t get annoyed.
I’m not really thrilled to see them watching TV,
I’d rather they’d enjoy the forest and trees.
And so in this season my family can bet,
They’ll get the best gifts that a family can get.
We’ll spend time together in the great out-of-doors,
Dressed in MEC clothing to stay toasty and warm.
No weather is too extreme to keep us inside.
This year, I’ll upgrade their snowshoes and skis,
And throw in some passes for their trail fees.
I’ll load up on chocolate (the bars and drink mix).
Three shiny new thermoses should do the trick.
Three headlamps, three hand warmers, three pairs of new booties,
And a wine tote for dad to prevent getting moody.
New socks and new wool caps to keep out the chill
And a set of new ice tools will give them a thrill.

I’ve got the boys covered, now what about me?
What would I like to see under the tree?
There’s nothing I need, don’t worry about mom,
Unless of course, you happen to see some…
Of those gorgeous T3 Long Johns that come in bold red,
And are already stashed away under my bed.
Or the Light Degree Hoodie that I’ve had my eye on,
I’ve put it on hold before they’re all gone.
Maybe a merino neck thingy – in fact I’d like two.
I’m sure I’ll love whatever, but it never hurts to give them a clue.
One-stop shopping accomplished, my work here is done.
